    You left out the courts.

    Having friends in media seems to be the most effective method to influence politicians. If you can convince the media that something is a problem you can define the problem and make your solution seem reasonable. However, actual public pressure, like on illegal immigration, doesn’t seem to affect politicians so maybe I am wrong.
