As an atheist, how do you feel about the recent Scientology mass advertising campaign?

Posted Saturday, November 14, 2009 by admin

I’m actually not that sure if it is a ‘mass advertising campaign’ or just their usual advertising level; I’ve just some Scientology ads on Youtube and I was wondering what other atheists felt about them. I know Christians don’t like them but I put that down to the same reaction that a used car salesman would have if another used car salesman set up business in his town. But as an atheist, does it anger you? Especially considering, from what I saw of the ads, they seemed to be targeting adolescents going through that awkward experimental, personality development stage so many of us go through? Does it remind you of vultures circling a battlefield, waiting for unguarded corpses to defile?

It doesn’t bother me. Probably because I don’t watch TV in the first place. I also don’t happen to have the itchy trigger finger when it comes to Scientology, which most other people seem to have. If people want to give their life saving’s away to some organization, that’s their own ignorant prerogative.

I seen a website that i guess was funded by scientology but it had nothing about scientology on it, it was just a bunch of stuff for kids about how to live a good life and stuff.

It really was a positive message and i had nothing against it.

Have you seen the onee where it’s like an IM conversation? The tagline: “Join the conversation”

    Hmmm tempting :P

Scientology is for crazy people who don’t know who’s side they are on.

Scientology ads specifically don’t bother me. We already have loads of religious advertising and content. One is just as silly as the next.
A religion targeting the most impressionable?!? Heresy! Who would of thought. Like being exposed to a god from the moment of birth? Newspaper ads, billboards, tv, radio, door to door, Christianity, Scientology, global warming hysteria, it’s all the same.

  • WellTraveledProg said on Dec 10th, 2009 at 2:19 PM:

Hmm, I didn’t notice — didn’t watch a single Scientologist ad on You Tube or anywhere else. I guess I’m not their target demographic? :)

Gullible people are going to fall for all sorts of nonsense. If the scientologists don’t get ‘em, the mormons or JWs will, or the evangelicals. It’s all the same, nonsense with no evidence to support it, ******* away your time, money, and intelligence.

The best we can do is educate youth with good critical thinking skills so they can make rational decisions, instead of being ignorant enough to believe any of this religious nonsense.

    Peace.
