How much say does a running mate, have in a campaign?

Posted Monday, January 25, 2010 by admin

I realize the Presidential candidate has the final say in anything that goes on during the campaign and is the boss, but does the running mate have any power over their ticket? In my viewpoint, especially since Sarah Palin is being scrutinized so much, it seems that she holds no real decision making power in the campaign, and it seems that Joe Biden has some power, but not much. So how much say does a running mate have in a campaign? My guess is very little.

Somehow I get the impression that Sarah Palin doesn’t sit in the corner and be told what to do.

The running mate gives advice, but doesn’t get to make decisions, just follows.

I think you are about right on all points. The running mate won’t have much impact on the election and once elected the VP will not have much power.

I don’t think they have much say at all actually. They can give their input and advice and stuff but that doesn’t mean they’ll actually use it.

Not much, Joe Biden didn’t even know that a campaign ad was running that he did not approve of. He said it was terrible. I guess Obama doesn’t let him even know whats going on.
