I think it’s a great idea. Christians advertise, why not atheists?

‘There probably is no god’
Hardly the sort of certainty to base your life on, is it?

I think I would have never noticed even being a Londoner if I hadn’t looked on this site today and I imagined a funnier slogan to have been made now.

a) Atheists belive in natural selection, also known as the law of the jungle.
b) Atheist ethics can be summarized as: He who dies with the most toys wins.
c) There’s no reason for atheists to care about anyone other than themselves, individually.
d) Why would atheists bother? It’s like the proselytizing dudes with the pop science books (Hitchens, Dawkins, ad nauseam)
And please, don’t tell me that you create your own meaning or some such thing, meaning has to have an external referent. That’s like saying “cold means cool, only more so” doesn’t tell you a thing about what either one of them means.

What a wimp advert. “Probably”? Give me a break.

Sounds like a good idea.
If we could just cut out the background noise of whiny Christians trying to sound relevant, it would be so much more pleasant for the rest of us.

Great idea, it is only in the good ol’ USA where Christians are such a narrow minded bunch!

I’m sure a lot of believers will **** it, but that ad has as much right to be posted as all the religious ones we see! Maybe more people will think before submitting without question.

As a Londoner I am disappointed. We have no ‘creation vs evolution’ debate here. People are free to be as non-religious as they want. So why cause this sort of confrontation ?

I like it, for one it doesn’t say there is not god, its says probably so its not offensive in any way…i see christian advertisements all the time on buses, its only fair we can put non offensive atheism ones on them too.

Well, if Muslims can do their ‘convert to Islam. We’re just harmless fuzzy bunnies. You’ll love it .’ routine and follow it up with threats to kill apostates and commandments to perform one atrocity each day before breakfast than I don’t see why atheists shouldn’t be allowed to get people to NOT have a special need to go around killing each other. Besides, it’s easier to defend atheism than it is to defend theisms. Well, if you limit yourself to reason and science and flat out ethical sanity anyway.
So, yeah, I F’in love it. I hope it catches on in a big way.
How much you wanna bet though that those signs get vandalized or the buses blown up? Or Muslims protesting in the streets and calling for the beheading of the owner of the bus line? Oh well, I guess we never get anywhere without a little social chaos.

I don’t have a problem with it at all; fair is fair. But lets be honest, Dawkins is very interested in creating a dogmatic atheism, much like his group The Brights.
He says we wouldn’t think twice if we saw a religious slogan on a billboard. I am a fundie and I have to say, I think twice when I see the very rare occurrence of one. I think, “Wow, you don’t see stuff talking about Christ a whole lot, especially a gigantic sign for thousands of people to see.”
Its a war of words between groups, Islam just got done advertising on London’s buses as well. When will it come to physical blows on the street I wonder?
The UK is a hotbed for religious tension right now.

As a Christian, I think it is a good idea. We are supposed to think about these things, and anything that prompts us to do so is (probably!) good.

The more I read about england, the more I am thinking of moving!
But really, I don’t see anything wrong with this at all. Everyday I see some kind of sign, billboard, commercial on tv or radio telling me all about God. Why not let someone else have a go?
Edit: Exactly how are bendy buses dangerous?

I am of the “live and let live” mindset – I do what I want and I don’t mind other people doing what they want – as long as THEY don’t tell ME what to do. On the face of it, this campaign seems harmless enough – although its members appear to be doing exactly the same thing that they criticise in their opponents’ faiths!
I do, however, take exception to one quote in that article you cite, that “thinking is anathema to religion”. This is grossly insulting to some of the greatest thinkers and philosophers of our times and throughout the ages, many of whom have been deeply religiously observant – if not religious leaders in their own right.

Why not a campaign against people that believe in the color blue?
