Is emailing the Samaritans actually all that good?

For support.. I’ve heard they’re good, but from people who have, what are they like? Do they give robotic/scripted replies, are they careless or do they genuinely care?

    Hi,
I have emailed the Samaritans and I wouldn’t say they give a scripted reply. They do care and they do give personalised replies.
However I have also phoned the Samaritans once and it wasn’t a great experience! The man I spoke to did care but he didn’t seem that interested in actually talking to me about what was going on that was making me feel the way I was. Instead he was telling me that the Samaritans is a phone line for people with no one else to turn to and that actually I should be talking to one of the many people I have around me – family, friends etc. I know he was just encouraging me to seek the support of those around me but at the time I didn’t feel able to do that which was why I rang them in the first place.
Anyway the bottom line is… what have you got to loose from emailing them? If it doesn’t help it doesn’t help but you’ll never know if you don’t try.
    Hope this helps
