What is appropriate when emailing an old teacher?

Posted Sunday, November 28, 2010 by admin

I am a college freshman and I just visited my old high school with one of my friends. I had a lovely time and I got to see all of my favorite teachers. The thing was they all insist that I email them more often.. I would, I just don’t know what I would say.

Do I tell them about boyfriends and parties or what???

No, not unless you were getting married. :) I would tell them about my work and what I am planning to do for a future job and how my schooling is going.

It really depends on the teacher to whom you’re writing, but I’d agree with the other two who have answered. Keep it to school or career unless the teacher is a friend of the family.

As a teacher, it feels good but a bit weird from the other side to have former students contact me via email or on one of the social sites. I tend to keep my distance.
