Can emailing job application late at night/during the day influence employer’s opinion of you?

Posted Thursday, January 27, 2011 by admin

I.e. when is the best time of the day to email job application so that the employer doesn’t suspect you’re an insomniac or have no life? Can emailing it at 9 a.m. make any difference on how your potential boss reacts toward you?

What’s the etiquette when emailing potential employers to see if they’re hiring?

I’m about to graduate from college with a B.S. in psychology and I’m looking for a job as a research assistant in a lab. Most professors don’t list these jobs on job search sites so I need to email them to find out if they’re hiring. Should I send my resume in my first email, or wait to see if they’re hiring? What kinds of things should I say? These may be people I want to work with down the road in graduate school, so I need to look very professional!

Is it rude to request a read receipt when emailing your resume to an online job posting?

Posted Thursday, December 2, 2010 by admin

I’ve been applying to jobs, and usually use gmail online, but recently I’ve been using Outlook as I find it to be quicker and easier, and forgot that I automatically request a read receipt. Does this look bad to a possible employer?

Is emailing a resume to an employer enough to apply for a job?

Should I include a cover letter?
Or call to indicate that I am applying?
Once I email is it just a matter of waiting for an interview?

How do you sign your cover letter if you are emailing it?

Posted Monday, October 11, 2010 by admin

I am submitting my resume together with a cover letter online (not as a hard copy) as requested by the company. I am, however, wondering – do I need to sign the letter in this case and if so, how do I sign it? I scanned my signature and inserted in the letter, but is it appropriate? Should I just type my name and leave it unsigned?

Is it weird to submit a picture when emailing a resume?

Posted Friday, October 1, 2010 by admin

I’m applying for any open positions at all of the news stations in my city. I would like to be in front of the cameras but I am willing to take any kind of opening position to start with such as cameraman, etc. So I was thinking of submitting a picture with my resume since I may be on camera someday and they might see my potential. Or is that weird?

When emailing a potential employer, what do I put as the subject line, and can the body be the cover letter?

I am emailing an employer about an Administrative Assistant position offered on their website, and wanted to know what do I write in the subject line. Is: “re:Administrative Assistant” fine or should I put something else like “Part-Time Administrative Assistant Position” etc?

also, is it okay for the body of the email to be my cover letter, and just attach the resume?

What is the correct way of emailing a resume?

If the employer does not specifiy how they would like you to send your resume, but they insist it should be done by email, do you put the cover letter in the body of the email and send the resume as an attachment? Or do you send both as an attachment? And should they be separate attachments?

Should I merge my resume, cover letter and references into one document, when emailing a resume?

When emailing a resume, cover letter, and references to an employer, should you merge all 3 of the documents into one (1) large document — to save the employer from having to download 3 separate attachments?

I’ve crossed out personal info, but the important things are there. I’d appreciate any feedback about my resume and how I could improve it. Thank you so much!
